Excuse me, are you an IFA? – Part 2
By Patrick Lim  •  August 2, 2008
By: Patrick Lim At one glance, the above table aptly summarises the differences between all practicing financial advisers under the ambit of the FAA passed in Cctober 2002 and credit (for the above table) goes to Mr David Choo, Managing Director and founder of Promiseland Independent Pte Ltd which also appeared in the original article published in the March 2003 edition of the SmartInvestor magazine. In part 3 of "Excuse me, are u an IFA?" which I will post tomorrow, I shall attempt to address the widely held beliefs that an IFA may not offer unbiased advice and may even skew recommendation of products. in other words, if the IFA's company does not carry certain products, the IFA may not even mention these products and bypass such products but instead, recommend the products found only in the IFA's stable. Patrick is an Associate Director with Promiseland. He has more than 20 years of personal investment experience both in stock and shares and unit trusts. In his early years as an investor, he got burnt really bad in the infamous 1987 crash and again during the clob incident. With 2 decades of so-called battle scars behind him, the last few years (since 2003) have been good to him especially with his single country funds doing exceptionally well. On his investing style, he is both a technical analyst and fundamentalist. Patrick view wealth accumulation as part and parcel of the wealth management process but only if one has already executed his/her wealth protection planning on an on-going basis.
