Poll: Market Outlook for 2011 – A half time review
By Derek  •  January 16, 2011
While most analyst agree the bullish sentiments will continue in 2011 or at least during the first half of the year.  It will be interesting what readers to my site think. The poll was started in the first week of January and true enough, most of the votes gathered then were  bullish. There were a few neutral votes but hardly any one feel bearish. However, during the past week or so, there was a sudden influx of readers who feel bearish. Could this be due to the widespread flooding in Australia? I have gathered 55 votes thus far and below is the breakup of the votes.

I intend to let the poll run till the end of Chinese New Year and hope to gather more than a hundred votes. With the new property cooling measures in place, will more people feel less bullish or will the New Year rally fuel the bullish sentiments? Click here to vote or share your thoughts below.

  1. Personally, I would have liked to see some bearish sentiments. Then the market can still go up another 10% – with small corrections along the way. But if a lot of people are super bullish…. Then I may have to take some chips off the table……

    Hi SMOL,

I brought your comment here so that more people can hear your views.

Personally I also think upside is limited to 10-20% but you got me thinking – how do we classify bullish, neutral or bearish? Do we classify 10-20% as bullish or flat? Hmm… this could be my next poll.

    Cheers!

I assume we’re talking about the STI here. I’m rather neutral, relative to other countries.

I would be curious to see how people feel about China, since the large majority of fund managers have stated China as their ‘most favoured’ country

    Hi Nick,

Market outlook is open to interpretation but I suppose if the world outlook is generally positive, it will spread to the respective index or stock.

With regards to China, I dunno man. Looks like a ticking time bomb but if you get your timing right, you can make lots.

    Cheers!

  5. Good question Derek!

There are many versions and I guess it will mean different things to different persons.

    My personal version is:

I am bullish when I make money!

I am neutral when I break even.

I am bearish when I lose money (And I don’t care even if the STI goes up 20%!)
