I have some money rotting in the bank. Can you help me?

Just For Thinking ... I often observe that some people are asking similar question in financial educational forums or blogs : "I have some money rotting in the bank. Can you help me?" It is like going to your GP and ask:"Doc, I am not feeling well. Can you help?" It is more important to ask yourself one question before going around asking others for financial advice. Without knowing why are you keeping money in the bank; most likely these bloggers will give you motherhood statement responses. It is not going to be helpful to you. That one question that you must ask yourself: Do you foresee the need to use up most of your money (e.g. 80-90%) in 1-2 years? I am 62 yrs old uncle living in HDB heartland who has achieved financial independence @ 56 and finally retired @ 60 from full-time job as employee on 1 Oct 2016. Single household income since 1995 with three children. Eldest son and daughter are now working and youngest son still in his 3nd year Uni in SUTD. I have been doing long-term investing and short-term trading in Singapore stock market only since Jan 2000 so I am that Panda or Koala in the investment world; but I am still surviving well in the wild.
