My Asset Allocation as of January 2012

If you compare it to my previous asset allocation in October, not much has changed. Property remains the single largest asset class at 77%. Stocks actually rose to 13% from 7% as a result of further investments into some undervalued stocks last year as well as the rise in stock values during the recent January rally.     I’m just curious, i just ord around last year june 11′ gotten a job few months later, currently savings of 500 a month, where do i start investing in in let say a year later with 6k plus…? is 6k enough for a start?

      Hi Syahmi,

      Glad that you are starting your investment early. Since you have just started work, have you set aside enough for your emergency expenses? Rule of thumb state six months but I would rather you work out a comfortable amount yourself.

      I too started investing with <10K and while sufficient to buy a stock or two, it will not be enough to build a stock portfolio. However, there are other options like Unit trust or Phillips share builder. Choose sometime which you are comfortable with.

      Base on the outlook now, I don't think there is a hurry to invest. Market timing is the key.
