You are here for a purpose and not an extra part

The movie Hugo had a dialogue that left a great impression on me. Hugo is a boy who lost his father. His father taught him how to fix clocks at a young age. Hugo has been fixing mechanical parts thereafter. Hugo and Isabelle (Hugo’s friend) were talking on a clock tower that oversee the night scene of Paris.

On finding a purpose, Isabelle was commenting the automaton (robot) looks sad. Hugo replied, “I think he’s just waiting to work again, to do what he’s supposed to do.” “Everything has a purpose, even machines.  …Maybe that’s why broken machines make me so sad.  Maybe it’s the same thing with people.”
