US Debt Ceiling Talks and Quantitative Easing tapering on Stocks

I think many investors are thinking that the US Federal Reserves will not be tapering the Quantitative Easing because of the US Federal Government shutdown and the debate of the debt ceiling. In my opinion and from what I have read, investors here may not have really understood what a US government default on its debt may have on the global economy if the US government does not manage to raise its debt ceiling in time. According to a report I read today, the US government debt is USD $12 trillion and that is USD $12,000,000,000,000! The amount of the US government debt is almost 23 times that of the debt of the Lehman Brothers episode (around USD $500 billion).
