Just as The Intelligent Investor is the defining literature for investors, Reminiscences of a Stock Operator should be required reading for all traders. I throw up just thinking about how insufferable it was to read the fundamental analysis bible. But Reminiscences is written like a novel, and clearly I may have subconsciously allowed my financial philosophy to be influenced by the more engaging reading experience.

Reminiscences is based on the colourful life of Jesse Livermore, a trader ahead of his time. He made money like a pro, went broke, made it back like a champion, went broke again, made it back like a king, went broke yet again, and then anti-climactically killed himself. In this somewhat autobiographical account, after winning with serial murderer consistency and getting himself banned from bucket shops all over the place, he introduces the reader to the concepts of price action and tape reading.
