Movie Tickets as Dividends – Did I make it?
By Derek  •  February 4, 2015
Update - 4 Feb 2015 I bought 1 lot of MM2 on 28 Jan 2015. However, my settlement date is 2 Feb 2015. My CDP account (Movement Current) also shows the second day of Feb. Any ones if that means that I have missed out on the movie tickets?
I received an interesting email today which I initially dismissed as spam.
Dear Derek Local movie producer and distributor, mm2 Asia Ltd has launched the Red Carpet Club, a programme targeted exclusively at shareholders and investors of the Group. Please see attached for Press Release for your reference.
To qualify for a pair of free tickets, I will need to own 1000 shares or 1 lot by 5pm 30 Jan 2015. This work out to $200 or $225 (including commission). I am not sure if there will be any cash dividends but movie tickets as a form of dividends work for me. The company intends to do the same for future selected movies produced and distributed by the group. Based on the email, there will be another 7 upcoming movies (including Ah Boys to Men 3). 7 pairs of tickets at an average price of $10 each work out to $140 - a 'dividend' of 62%. Ok so the tickets are not guaranteed but on a first come first serve basis and the movies may not be everyone's cup of tea. Still if you manage to watch just one movie (2 tickets) a year, that is 8.8% dividend. And if you watch 11 movies, you will have broken even. I hope I do not sound like I am promoting the stock. I will only have a vested interest of 1 lot. Anyone wanna join me for Ah Boys to Men 3? PS: Do you think I will be able to get the ticket if I were to buy using Standard Chartered Trading Account?

    Hi Derek,

Interesting! From discount card (for Soup Restaurant) to Movie Tickets, looks like the companies are getting more creative in dishing out “benefits” for their shareholders.

    I am a movie buff….hmmmm

      Hi Richard,

I was just discussing with my friend this morning. The tickets might be for weekdays which mean lower ‘dividends’ due to cheaper tickets. Weekdays also make it difficult to go but I’m sure that’s no obstacle for a movie buff like you. ;)

If you bought with Scb, u won’t get the ticket as Scb is just the custodian of our share. With so many shareholders, they won’t take the trouble to inform everyone unless it is corporate action like rights issue.

Even if Scb can do that for you, by the time you receive their call, 1st 200 ticket would have been redeemed.
