During the campaigning week prior to Polling Day, I was reading online when I came across the same statement in two separate blogs - "Nobody owes us a living." Being curious about the meaning, I googled the sentence and got my answer.  It is part of the sagely wisdom which chastises one that, "if you do not work hard for something, do not expect to be rewarded." I can visualize the context on a national level as well as on a personal level.
