The Edge magazine this week has an article on the Oct 2013 penny stocks saga; a saga which has erased billions of dollars from the Singapore stocks markets. To date, there is still no announcement of the investigation outcome into this saga. Singapore stocks markets is already a small, price-taker market and when we have saga like the above despite having a good reputation of a good forward-looking market, it is not good for retail investors. It is not easy, I believe for retail investors to invest in Singapore stocks markets as compared to decades ago as the global stocks markets are more volatile and of the current nature of our stocks markets. I would think that investors should “cast our nets” wider to include overseas stocks in their portfolio if they could. I hope the new Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat could do something to make Singapore stocks markets ......
