The ST ran an simulated portfolio suitable for Retirees. One very important info is missing. How much he has for FD. He has only 50K in emergency funds and CPF of 80K. I assume his FD is of similar size or twice as his emergency funds 50-100k. It would means his vested amount is at least twice the size of his assets not including his property. I would rather have more at FD/ emergency fund and annuity or policy with Cash back features. I would also be more heavily tilted at bonds, at least 50% because I 吃老本。 Personally, I think REITs and ETFs are no less volatile than equity.     I didnt read the ST article in details.
    I am thinking if I were that age (61?), I would keep my portfolio simple, perhaps mainly SSB or FD, and possibly little in equities. My main purpose would be to ensure I have enough $$ to last till the last moment. I dont really intend to leave a legacy behind.

      Hi Starlight,

      Thanks for your views. It depends on each individual but II think the experts here are trying to do a bit of everything – generate a bit of income for retirement without too much risk and also to leave something for the children.

      I believe some people at over the age of 60 could still be doing a bit of stock speculation and who are we to stop them? It’s the same as going to the casino and have a good time. :)
