Recently, there were announcements of two former members of Parliament who left political office being appointed as part of the Board of listed companies. First, we have Teo Ser Luck appointed as the Deputy Chairman of Serial System. Teo, a current Member of Parliament took up the appointment after he left political office as Minister-of-State. Also, another current member of Parliament, former Senior Minister-of-State, Mr Lee Yi Shyan has been appointed as the non-executive, non-independent Chairman of International Healthway Corporation. Their appointments come after another member of Parliament, Ms Jessica Tan’s appointment as an independent Director in SATs in April 2017. While we have current MPs like those in the above paragraphs taking up roles in listed companies, we also have management team of listed companies joining the Parliament as members of Parliament.
