Up until early this year, everytime I went overseas for work or holiday, I have to trudge up to a money changer, get ripped off on forex rates, change a ton of cash (especially if it’s a long trip), and then stealthily try to hide the manila envelope full of cash while I dart home, all the time praying I wouldn’t be robbed.
That’s just pre-trip. Post trip, I’ll find myself ladled with foreign currency coins that I’ll have trouble changing back to SGD because moneychangers won’t take coins.
Thanks to my new job (disclaimer time, I work at Citibank), I have access to Citi Global Wallet, tied to my Mastercard debit card, that allows me to store and transact up to 9 currencies. Once you have a Citibank savings account and its associated debit card, it’s easy to activate global wallet from your app.
