How I only spend USD300 per month

If you don’t already know, I am currently in a full time masters program in the States. There are many restrictions on employment for full time students, such as only being able to work 20 hours per week during the school term and only jobs that are in the school compound/organisation. The pay under these circumstances are really low, range USD8-15/hr before taxes thus, the only way to minimise my living costs in the US is to spend as little as possible since there is no way to maximise my income. I was chatting with MissNiao recently and we brought up the topic of yearly expenditure. She was surprised at how I could only spend $300 per month.
