Perennial China Retail Trust – news update

Since my investment into the above on 21 Sep 2012, PCRT announced on 2 Oct that it is diversifying into Beijing. This project will be invested together with some reputable local businessmen from Singapore but will only be ready in 2016 and PCRT will have the right of first refusal over the retail space. Personally i think it is a good diversification for its current portfolio. The report by DBS is here. Happy...

No 3 No 4 ?

I haven't been trading actively since my last posting to share with you how to watch out for the "stars".  For the last 2 weeks, the market was probably in a no 3 no 4 (不三不四) situation where it was neither going up nor breaking down. It is basically in state of confusion and in a limbo until we can see a clear winner between the bulls and the bears. I will probably continue to stay on the sidelines until i can see trades that give me a better risk-reward ratio. Straits Times Index Let's do a quick recap...

New proposed IPO allocation rule for retail investors

In case you haven’t heard, your chances of getting hot IPO shares will be boosted if the following proposal is adopted by SGX. The article is posted below in case you need it. “This will not only provide retail investors with more opportunities, but their increased activity in the secondary market will also add to liquidity”, SGX said. Is SGX implying retail investors are “shorter term” in nature and thus the liquidity will increase because they will buy and sell more? :-P Anyway, you can let your views be heard via the email address above. hahaha :)  Please note that the...

How i will evaluate a property and a good website to share!

I found an interesting website yesterday. Never knew it existed till someone show it to me. I think Squarefoot Research was created with the user in mind and intuitively, you will be able to find the information which you may want to know for a particular development. I think it contains a lot of good stuff which you cannot find through the URA website or other websites. Let’s just use one of the examples which i have used previously, Citylights Condo, to show you the thought process behind evaluating a condo. 1. First you get a summary page on the condo. There are many...

Passive income from blogging?

When i started my Singapore IPOs Blog on 7 July 2007, I wonder if it is possible to receive some passive income from blogging. The idea behind was to combine my passion for investing with my desire to share that knowledge through blogging and then trying to earn some coffee money out of it. I will share with you my experiences here and you can decide for yourself if you want to take this path. It took me exactly one year before i receive my first pay check from Google for reaching the minimum payout milestone of US$100. I...

Just after i complained about a Singapore IPO Famine on Tuesday, someone asked me today if I want to subscribe for the placement shares of the upcoming company – Gaylin Holdings Limited. Far East Hospitality Trust – Insiders in action?

I am not sure if you read my post on FEHT on Monday. The post is here. Here is the updated chart at closing today. Pursuing Financial Freedom the "right" way.

I read with interest various blog posts regarding whether one should give allowance to their parents or applying for bursary when one don’t really need it. I guess it struck a bell within me to make me write this post today. In July this year, i wrote a $5,000 cheque to my Alma Mater. I committed to the school that i will donate the same amount for 10 years as long as i am working. It is my way of saying thanking to the school who made me what i am today (be it good or bad), for helping me...

Singapore IPO Famine?

If i need to make a living out of blogging on companies listing in Singapore, i think i will probably go very hungry…and we are currently experiencing a famine here!  It is amazing why companies are not rushing out to launch their IPOs since this is such a golden window. Probably they can get their companies out at higher valuations and the share price can be sustained post listing. If you look at the pipeline, there is absolutely "nothing in sight" except for a Indian business trust called Global Telecommunications Infrastructure Trust.  Pipeline For readers who want to know...

Any further government cooling measures?

This is a continuation of my previous post.  The chart below shows you the various government measures. It is interesting to note that the government has implemented 5 rounds of cooling measures since 2009.  I am not sure how MS came to this conclusion but they are expecting residential price to tall by 13% by Dec 13? In my mind, I was expecting the consolidation and correction (if any) will probably take longer and will hit the 180-200 levels only in 2014-2015. To reach 180 levels in such a short span of time, you will need sentiments in the...

Importance of Closing Prices

It’s Ninja Lesson time. I am not sure if you have heard of the quote before “Amateurs open the market, but professionals close it”.  In short term trading, closing prices are more important than opening prices. It tells your the force behind the price movement and whether the price is weak or strong. Who sets the opening price? Usually it will be people who have read the news (such as results or news announcement) the night before and then put in their orders early in the morning before market opens.  Who sets the closing prices? Usually, it will be the professionals or market...

Far East Hospitality Trust

Far East Hospitality Trust in my SRS Fund had a nice run up. This is probably due to the good news that Singapore has extended its F1 contract by another 5 years till 2017. Investors probably like what they are hearing and move into the stock throughout the day...

My Property Journey Rewind – 2006

Lets continue with part 4 of my story today. Part 1 is here. Part 2 is here. Part 3 is here. It was 2005, we had just sold our HDB flat at a loss, placed a booking for a condominium but we were “broke” and needed somewhere to stay. We decided to rent a 3 bedroom at a condo in the east. The condo was near to both my parents, in-laws and the caregivers. It was a new condo that had just TOP and was built by City Developments. The owners were staying in a HDB and decided to...

The iPhone5 is so HOT…. that I top up my SRS account.

I thought I was “lucky” enough to receive the confirmation email from Singtel to inform me that I can book an appointment to Marina Bay Sands on last Friday. The “happiness” turned to “frustration” when i couldn’t even log in at 10pm and after trying for the longest time, i was informed that all the slots have been taken up. :( On Friday evening, I received an email telling me that I was able to purchase the phone from any Singtel shops from Saturday onwards. I decided “strategise” and visit the most remote outlet in Raffles Place to buy...
