Most Investors Are Avid Readers, MPH Book Sales Is Here!

OK, I admit that I might be over generalized thing here, it might not be true that most investors are avid readers but I am pretty sure that many of you folks like to read (at least online). Nowadays, most of the reading materials can be obtained online (free or paid) in electronic version, however, I do still buy physical books as the physical touch and flipping of the pages do give me a different reading experience. If you are interested in physical books (like me), do consider heading down to Singapore Expo (Hall 4) tomorrow for the MPH...

Which Of These 8 Research House’s Research Papers Appeal To You The Most?

We are all busy man (I assumed) and thus most of the time need to rely on some ready research papers (with all the financial figures/stats) from the Research Houses for our stock investment idea. Personally, I think it is a great way to make use the Research Paper as a basic resource for our own “advanced” analysis. Having said that, there are quite a number of Research Houses around and each of them have their own set of guidelines and assumption. It is hard to determine which is more right than the other. Hence, for the same counter, different Research House might derived a different outcome with different...

King Wan (554) – My First Stock With CPF Fund

Recently, there are so much hoo-ha about our CPF Fund and how it was administered by the CPF Board etc. etc. To me, everything we do, there is always pros and cons and there is no way that it can satisfied everybody. Has The World Cup Effect Started Earlier?

In less than 8 days’ time, the world’s hottest one-month long sport event, World Cup 2014 will kick-off in Brazil (12th June 2014, Thu to 13rd July 2014, Sun). Usually, the global markets will go slow during the World Cup season. It is understandable as majority of the investors are male (not being sexist here) and man like football ;-) While writing this post, the STI is dropping 16.01 points (to 3,280.66), which is about 0.5%, so, I just wonder whether the World Cup fever effect started earlier or it’s a delayed defect of “Sell in May and Go Away”? Personally, would you be actively trading during the World...

Do You Still Read Hardcopy Financial Magazines/Weekly?

Last weekend, when I was at Kinokuniya bookstore at Takashimaya Orchard, I just grab a copy of the latest The Edge weekly as my market resource for the week, I am not a regular reader of The Edge but the headline of BIG INVESTORS SWOOP IN (news about strategic investors’ interest on Goodpack, Q&M Dental Group and Singapore Post). So, it sets me thinking, with the influx of online market news through news portals, blogs and forums (mostly free), how many more local physical financial/ investment magazines/weekly are left now? Also, are you still reading them now? Off the top of my head, following are the two such magazines/weekly that came...

Do You Usually Factor In These 2 Elements In Calculating Your Rate of Returns?

Ok, this might be a newbie question but since I am a newbie here, so please bear with me ;-) Also, I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer, I just like to survey the norm. My question is rather simple, do you usually factor in the following elements in calculating your rate of returns and why? – The commission/fee for both purchase and sell transactions. – The dividend(s) that you’ve received during the holding period. Personally, I do take into consideration of the above mentioned elements since my invested capital is rather low and hence it...

Is This The Common Pattern of Daily Volatility Of Stock?

I am only 3 months young in really trying to understand the local stocks market, so whatever I am going to share next is purely my own observation and hence need some “old bird” masters/sifu to give me some correction/input on my observation ;-) Through my three months short tenure in observing the market trend, I noticed that there is a common pattern or trend of volatility (as well as volume traded) within a typical trading day. To me, it (the trend) can be depicted as per the simple chart below:   In short, it is generally more volatile...
