Aramco IPO

Aramco IPO is expected to be priced at 1.5 to 2 trillion dollars which will be around 15 to 20x PE. Likely dividend yield would range from 3.75 to 5 percent. It will be listed in their domestic market for a start and they will be offloading a 2% stake. This IPO could signify the gradual downtrend of fossil fuels with the Saudi Kingdom diversifying and cashing in on their cash cow. Looking forward to much greener energy in the future. Some interesting charts to have a feel if Aramco’s valuation is justifiable. I would feel a valuation of...

Investor Edge (Sembcorp Industry)

Investor Edge: Sembcorp Industry(2.23)NAV:3.42Forward PE: 11Price to Book:0.65Net Debt to Equity: 1.09Dividend Yield: 1.8% With the recent corporate announcements by Keppel Corp (It was one of my picks earlier), I am adding Sembcorp Industry to my Investor Edge list. Trading at price to book of 0.65 (NAV: 3.42) and forward pe of around 11x, the recent announcements will be a potential positive catalyst for this well-known name. The thesis will be Sembmarine is likely to be taken over by Keppel Corp in their restructuring and if so SCI will be a beneficiary being the parent. Also, with the settlement...

Jim Rogers Talk by CoAssets

I just attended a talk organized by CoAssets with the keynote speaker being Jim Rogers. Some takeaways from his speech: 1) He is expecting a big correction that is going to be the worse in his lifetime due to the huge debt load globally. 2) He is bullish on USD, Agriculture and China (The road to number 1 will be bumpy). 3) Hk is likely to fade in importance once the Rmb becomes convertible. Shanghai and Shenzhen will be where the action is. 4) He is unlikely to invest in Reits in the near future (2019-2020) as current low-interest...

Market Trends (Is a Deflation and Recession on its Way?)

Some might be wondering if this title suits the current market environment with the US equity markets setting record highs and poised for more upside. Things seems to be panning out as what I have mentioned in my earlier post (Elliott Wave Analysis on Dow Jones). I had forecasted Dow Jones to topped out at around 27,500-28,000. It seems like “America First” is in play whereby America wins and the rest of the world losses. Worldwide indices in general are still way off their all-time highs and have not caught up with the charged up rally the US market...

Goodbye to Affordable Mortgage Loans?

Sibor rates since 2006 Was looking through the historical interest rate charts recently. I have a look at the Fed rate since 1950 and Singapore interest rates since 1995 so as to have a feel of the likely trajectory of the interest rate environment. I believe many are considering if they should be taking the fixed rate or the floating rate for their refinancing. Gone are the days of low interest rates whereby it have been almost 13 years since 2007 whereby taking the HDB loan seems like the worst decision ever as HDB loans interest rate stands at...

My AGM Tour (April 2019)

I have attended 6 AGMs last week and these are some of my quick takeaways: Far East Orchard– They have an All Star board with Mr Koh Boon Hwee and Ms Jennie Chua in it. Issues highlighted were their foray into PBSA sector (student accommodation), Sentosa project, medical suites(low yield), capital recycling efforts, property development pipelines and etc. They have been in the PBSA sector since 2015 (Not late in the game) and they have build up from ground their Newscastle portfolio but they have recently purchased from other vendors their Liverpool, Bristol and Brighton assets. Net yield for...

Market Trends (Sell In May and Go Away?)

We are near to May again and I have been updating my records for STI (Singapore Index) since 3 years back on this anomaly. Here is an extract of a write up that I have penned last year and I will be adding the latest data point. For a start, I did an eyeball screen of the performance of STI from the end of April till June for the past 17 years with the starting point being 2002. Here are my findings, out of 17 years: 11 years are down- 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015,...

Market Trends (Dow Jones Index= Marina Bay Sands?)

Market Trends (4th March 2019) The markets have continued their good run since my last writeup and there is currently a playing catch up by the China market with their recent surge. Shanghai index had rallied by almost 20 per cent since the start of the year. It is mainly driven by firstly their low valuation and also the news that MSCI inclusion of Shanghai A Shares percentage from 5% to 20% which is above initial expectations. There is also divergence seen currently with China markets showing more strength than the US markets which was in contrast with the...

Market Trends (Dead Cat Bounce?)

Market Trends (7th Jan 2018) The markets have been on a tear and are currently on a great recovery since our last write up. The Dow Jones Index correction have actually reached my target of a 20% fall from the peak (Low of 21450) which I have predicted in this write up, “Evaluating Past Crisis”. However, it took almost an entire year since the post was penned in February 2018 whereby the markets work very well with the buy on dips strategy during the whole of 2018. There were a few more follow-up write-ups, “Is US Market a Bargain?”...
