Books That Have Set My Investment Path

I decided to change the webpage layout a little bit to try out a fresh feel! And without further ado.. I present to you the Books that have set my Investment Path! I never thought this day would come, for me to be recommending books. I used to be the one in secondary school that would take 6 months just to finish one reader’s digest book. I could never finish it! I was pretty much convinced that I’m not a book person and that I can never finish reading a book without giving up halfway or even after the...

“The sky is falling!! The sky is falling!!”

Anybody remembers Chicken Little? Though I’m facing paper losses from all these madness, I’m surprised with myself that I am able to stay emotionally detached. I don’t know what exactly changed in me the past 2-3 years of trading/investing, I might have finally achieved emotional stability. Despite the onslaught in the market, I remain optimistic about the future. Though it all looks dismal right now with market closing 127 points down, I set my sights on the far future while having the quiet confidence that my current portfolio will not totally crumble. There’s so much pessimism in the air...

Why Saving Is Natural To Some And Not To Others

I believe this topic will touch the heartstrings of many people, especially those of my age(21). We all have that few friends who never seem to be able to save. This caused me to ponder about why it’s natural for some to save and others find it a challenge. Reflecting, I realise that this has quite a bit to do with (1)Habit, (2)Lifestyle, and (3)Ability to put off temptation. Habit Habit is one of the easiest trick to inculcate, either by self-discipline or under the supervision of others. When it comes to saving money, I realised that my parents...

Safest when it all seems most dangerous..

To start off, I think I’m not the only one experiencing conflicting emotions. One side of me is excited about the shopping season for stocks that’s coming, but the other side of me is feeling jumpy that my portfolio is dragged down by the negative sentiment as well. I constantly have to remind myself not to think too much and get so jumpy over market fluctuations. It happens. And as an ‘Intelligent Investor’, as Warren Buffett would describe, we should embrace it and even be glad that the opportunity comes when we can buy even more of the great...

China Boom The Next Tech Boom? 770% increase

I haven’t been able to write and I just had to get this out of my chest! Remember a few days back, random China shares on 28 July that usually have no volume, flew in valuations, even as much as 770% in a single day or two. As I’m reading Intelligent Investor right now, it seems just like yesterday when the Tech Boom happened, where anything that had the word or meaning that sounded vaguely like ‘Tech’, sent stocks flying to ungodly valuations. Something’s brewing and it’s definitely not good.. Take a look at some of the stocks below. All...

Diversification, are we doing it right?

Diversification. The word you would have come across when you first started investing. But, what does it really mean, and more importantly, are we doing it right? I’m currently reading Intelligent Investor (After 3 years of investing.. A little late, I know haha!) and I must say, I have been renewed in my mindset in a lot of ways and on many different matters. I’m only like 20% done with the book but I’ve picked up many valuable principles and perspectives that I’ve never considered before. Why I’m writing this post is because I felt that many of us...

When in doubt, stay out!

“I bought on impulse”, “it was a speculation” these are some of the things we tend to hear or say when our fingers get itchy and haven’t been trading as often as we used to. This is also the period when we tend to make silly mistakes that cost us the most! Being in a market that has already experienced a substantial bull run means that many of the stocks are already trading at high valuations. To a value investor, it means that there’s very little opportunity to take up a new position because the stock’s P/E and P/B...

A New Beginning

So I finally completed my training phase in army and now I’m an operational commando. The 72km route march taught me many lessons as I took another step, and another step, and another step. To finally don on the red beret gives one a very special feeling because it’s not just a beret. Looking at it, I think about all the various milestones I have been through the past year and how I have grown. The march was a significant milestone, not only in my army life, but also in my personal life as well, especially financially. Now that...

Return & Review on STI and VICOM

I will do a short post this time round, there’s so many things I need to catch up on! Back to the review..It’s been awhile since I last posted! Finally got back from my overseas training and of all time, just when I’m overseas, STI’s uptrend line was breached. This is getting really interesting because now we’re looking at the possibility of entering a bear market. A lower low has been formed, what’s left next is to see if a lower high will be formed. First resistance should be somewhere at the 3425 mark. STI VICOM So instead of...

VICOM: Powerful Analysis – What Could Happen (Technical POV)

With the recent growth in talks about VICOM, I decided to take a look at this company myself as well. I will be following up on this post with more fundamentals perhaps some time in June or July when I’m back but I’ll make do with the little time I have here before I fly off for the month of May! As per my standard routine, my preliminary search always begins with the charts. Personal Stand: I’ve been reading different blogs on VICOM and have started seeing people take a vested interest in it and it has caught my...

STI outlook and more!

It’s been a pretty busy week, but I’m back with an update on the market! I’m using my nights out time to write this post so let’s not waste any more time! Let’s jump straight in! STI Referring back to STI Outlook: 19 Apr 2015, I mentioned STI was likely to take a breather again, and it sure did. Now it’s back at the support trendline and we have seen the first sign of bounce and I’m expecting continuation of the uptrend. Now that the higher low has been formed, what awaits us is to see if a higher...

My SGD$34M Dream

We all have dreams, be it big dreams or small dreams. Personally, I choose to dream big, very big. Some may say “it cannot be done” or “it’s not practical”. But nevertheless, I will still take my chances. It does take courage to dream big, and I believe that whatever the mind can conceive, it can be achieved! I will attempt to put a dollar value to my dream in this post and see what it takes and how much my dream would cost. The Dream Before we begin calculating the cost, we need to know as specific as...

STI Outlook: 19 Apr 2015

It’s finally the weekends and I can finally update myself on the market movements! So while in camp I heard about how STI breached 3500 and I was honestly taken by surprise. I didn’t expect 3461 to be breached so soon without first re-testing the support line. Looking at the chart..Going forward, we’re look at 3650 to be tested next where the new resistance is at. We’re approaching the 07-08 high of 3900. It will definitely be a major resistance point because that was the previous tipping point before it crashed through to the lows in 08-09. Review of...
