TTI’s Portfolio Updates – November 2017

October 2017 was a busy month for me, in terms of portfolio changes. I made 2 complete divestitures, and feel really good about them. This is just a quick update, and some of my accompanying thoughts as we go into the earnings season next week. 1. LTC Corporation I currently own 240,000 shares. LTC did pretty well YTD, rising a very respectable 26.42%. (In any other year, 26.42% would’ve been a monster year, but this year, the bar has been raised considerably by STI ETF) I wrote about my thoughts at the end of 2016 after analyzing the FY16....

Wealth Destruction Behaviors – TTI’s Personal Anecdotes

For those who have requested for complimentary SGX Bull Charge tickets and signed up, SGX has informed me that race pack collection will be available from 3rd November onwards. SGX will send you guys another email closer to the date, so do look out for that. I’d probably take it as a time trial, so if you see a chap running seriously like he’s going to compete with Mok Ying Ren, that could very well be me. HAH! There hasn’t been any updates on SG TTI for the past 3 weeks, as I bunker down to get some serious...

What Makes You Think You Can Win? The Case For The True Value Investor – LTC Corporation & S i2i Limited

Value investing as a concept, has really taken off in the past couple of decades. Graham came up with the science behind it, but Buffett single handedly popularized it and made it mainstream by showcasing results that became the fantasy of investors-wannabe all over the world. Let me play the devil’s advocate here, and put forth a key concept question: If information is now ubiquitous, and assuming most retail investors have access to the same type of information, at the same time, how does one truly find value and capitalize on it? If there’s a real discrepancy between the...

PE Moving On To Pre-IPO; TTI’s Projected Returns: 1,000% Within 10 years.

As usual, I’d start off with some non investment related stuff first. First up, for those who have emailed me for complimentary tickets to SGX Bull Charge, please be patient, I’ve just submitted your contacts, SGX will contact you guys directly via email. I’ve given out, I think 7 or 8 entries, so there’s still 2 more if anyone wants them. A couple of weeks ago, someone showed me this: http://happinessnotebook.com/finding-happiness-against-the-odds/ It’s a really heart warming video about this guy who has survived and even thrived against all odds. The world is an unfair place, we are all born...

SGX Bull Charge 2017! + Other Recent Developments

Nope, this post is not about the bull market. It’s mostly about SGX’s annual charity run. But in the true spirit of SG TTI’s typical posts, let me 1st talk about some frivolous stuff, updates etc. In a recent post, I talked about 2 recent additions to TTI’s portfolio: TTI Bought >$100K Worth Of Equities In July… Howard Marks’ Memo Better Don’t Come True Right Now! This was broken down into 2 parts and republished on NextInsight: https://www.nextinsight.net/story-archive-mainmenu-60/939-2017/11644-dutech-why-i-bought-another-100-000-shares-on-price-fall https://www.nextinsight.net/story-archive-mainmenu-60/939-2017/11646-geo-energy-resources-why-i-bought-another-100-000-shares-on-price-fall Well, at least for now, it does seem that I’ve managed to buy very close to the bottom (something that...

Addendum To Previous Post…

This is an addendum to my previous post (which was just yesterday actually): TTI Bought >$100K Worth Of Equities In July… Howard Marks’ Memo Better Don’t Come True Right Now! I’ve received quite a number of queries regarding options, particularly on how I structured them. While I’ve replied every email and comment, I’d just summarize and clarify some points in this very quick and short addendum. With regards to the Brazil ETF (EWZ), well, I guess I’d just take the lazy way out and cut and paste what I wrote on IN on the 9th June 2017: https://www.investingnote.com/posts/125750 Now,...

TTI Bought >$100K Worth Of Equities In July… Howard Marks’ Memo Better Don’t Come True Right Now!

The title basically sums up how I feel right now. I’m sure many have already read it, as I have, but the said famous memo above can be found here if you haven’t: https://www.oaktreecapital.com/insights/howard-marks-memos I absolutely love to read this guy’s memos. Of course, when you’re a billionaire, suddenly everyone wants to hear what you have to say, hoping to glean some secret formula to riches in your writings. But that’s not really the reason why I love his memos. The reason is actually very simple: They are easy to read. Lots of common sense, easy to read and...

Today, I’m Going To Talk About Private Equity – TTI’s Personal Experience

Small caps, Mid caps, Large caps, Blue chips, Growth companies blah blah blah. As long as it’s listed, chances are it’d be discussed to the death somewhere. But there are hardly any NO blog posts talking about private equity. Zilch. So let me be contrarian here. (Afterall, that’s the tagline of this blog right? Once in a while gotta be contrarian, even content also contrarian… LOL) Aside from my holdings in public listed companies, I have a relatively modest portfolio of private equities. (For the uninitiated, PE = private companies that are not listed. They may be in the start...

A Unique Arbitrage Situation + Results From Options Strategy (3rd Month)

June was a really tough month work wise, so updates have been few in between. I’ve only just realized how busy I was, when my lunch buddy noted that I’ve only had 2 weekday lunches the entire month, and had to work through all the other lunches. Anyway, busy is good. I love busy. Time passes quickly when one is busy. Speaking of which, I’ve also been busy on the options front. Busy fighting fires that is. Over the past month, Valeant’s share price shot up rapidly. Unfortunately, I sold a bunch of call options just prior to the...

TTI’s Portfolio Results – FY17Q2

Before we know it, it’s the halfway mark of FY17 and it’s time for the customary crunching of numbers to see where TTI stands, relative to the general market. To summarize: Not too good. STI ETF’s figures are kinda crazy this year, and although in recent weeks STI is showing some weakness, on an annualized basis it is still on a tear. Clocking in with an XIRR of 28.58% at the halfway mark, STI ETF continues it’s impressive run in 2017. By contrast, TTI’s XIRR for 2017 stands at 12.81% as of 2017Q2. Total portfolio size has increased rather...

Geo Vs GEAR! + Options Update

There hasn’t been regular updates as this is traditionally a really busy time of the year for me, work-wise. School holidays + everyone wants to get work done before going for summer vacations. In fact, I too, am planning my CNY getaway next year right now as we speak. (Just inserting a random summer vacation pic so that email pic below doesn’t become picked up as the heading pic by other aggregating websites!) Well, I’m actually ok with visiting and doing all the CNY stuff. It’s all great fun for the kids too. It’s just that my schedule tends...

TTI Portfolio Review – 25th May 2017 + An Interesting VRX Story

With the strong performance of STI ETF so far this year, I wanted to do a quick review to see where I stand vs the index this year. Since the last update in March 2017, SG TTI has narrowed the gap from STI ETF, but as yet, is still underperforming STI ETF. The passive index is proving to be a real winner so far this year. Based on XIRR, STI ETF has thus far, including dividends, returned a massive annualized return of 38.98% I can’t help but think that if someone had at the end of 2016, decide to...

Geo Energy Resources – Dropped 23% In The Past Week. What’s In Store?

I typically do not reveal the location of my travel pics, unless the travelling took place some time ago. No prizes for guessing this time around though. LOL! All I can say is, don’t go during summer! It’s shit ass crazy hot, and no amount of air conditioning can save you. Amazingly enough, the locals can wear long sleeved shirts and look perfectly comfortable. I’m doing all I can to stop myself from stripping bare naked. Still, I figured that the Taj Mahal is classic, and it’s something I wanna check off my to do list. Perfectly beautiful, I’m...

BBR Holdings FY17Q1, Geo Energy Resources FY17Q1, Results From Options Strategy (1 month)

A patient gave me some really good advice the other day: She said, “Dr XXX, now your kids still young, wanna go anywhere just go la! Next time go to school very hard already!” I’ve just came back from a trip  barely 1 month ago, but I guess that advice really made sense to me. (Or perhaps I just want it to make sense. The mind sees whats the heart wants right? haha) So, it looks like I’m gonna have to break the promise I made myself, which is no more travelling for the rest of the year as...
