RSI & MACD are bearish though RSI in oversold region.

Important Resistance of NOL: $1.05

Immediate Support of NOL: $0.995

Currently prices are well below 20/50/100/200 days MA.

Since 11/April, NOL has been undergo heavy selling pressure and the selling has yet to eased as prices seems to lost its power to rally higher.

The support at $0.995 is expected to be strong.

Although we do not suggest buying such bearish stocks but we would expect prices to rebound …

This book review covers the book called “The Warren Buffett Stock Portfolio” written by Mary Buffett and David Clark. It delves into some of the stock purchases of Warren Buffett under Berkshire Hathaway and why Warren bought them. The stocks covered in this book includes:

BNY Mellon

The Coca-Cola Company

ConocoPhilips

Costco Wholesale Corporation

This blog post is to answer a question which I have received from readers, friends and family alike. Is it a good time to buy more units of Saizen REIT?

This is a question which I would avoid giving a direct answer to. There is a great deal of subjectivity.

However, I would present some numbers here and you decide.

The annualised DPU is some 1.22c based on the last payout. At 13.6c a unit, the distribution yield is some 8.97%. Sounds good?

However, bearing in mind that its warrants will expire on the 1st of next month, I expect the warrants to be fully exercised within these few days. The exercise price is 9c. This would increase the units in issue by …

On Wednesday, Genting SP re-tests the support at $1.505 and closed at $1.505 with HIGH volume of 37.84 million shares traded.

A falling window occurred (where the bottom of the previous shadow is above the top of the current shadow). This usually implies a continuation of a bearish trend. There have been 3 falling windows in the last 50 candles–this makes the current falling window even more bearish.

Immediate Support of Genting: $1.505

Genting SP has clearly ended its uptrend when prices gap down below the rising trend line on 11/May. This is a bearish signal and triggered more selling pressure.

The resistance at $1.565 is expected to be strong.

We would not suggest buying Genting SP for …

Property is a hot topic these days and it seems like everyone is jumping onto the property bandwagon. In my line of work, I often come across seminar participants who ask me where they can find good property deals. What many of them fail to realize is that finding good deals is only half of the solution. The other half is having a good understanding of their investment profile (i.e. risk appetite, investment horizon, budget, holding power, etc). Very often, the difference between a profitable deal and a non-profitable deal is determined by an investor’s ability to hold on to the investment, regardless the market condition.

To better help my seminar participants, my company, Ascendant Assets Pte Ltd, has developed a proprietary Property Investor Profile Survey (PIPS) to help our clients better understand their individual investment profile. After doing the survey, we will score them based …

When Dan first read research reports that were pretty negative about some of these companies, his initial impression was that they were wrong.

So he decided to set up his own investigation team in China to prove the doomsayers wrong.

What he found out however, was that fraud was pervasive and out in the open. Things like:

Facilities that were supposed to be there were not operating.

Staff count of supposedly 1500 people …

Firstly, I must clarify that I did not represent UOB when I wrote the articles and UOB also does not pay me for promoting their product. Secondly, I wrote the articles based on my investment experience. I had made some money from it and thus, wished to share with my readers. I will not bear responsibility for any potential losses incurred as readers need to do homework before investing or alternatively, they should seek financial consultant’s advice before deciding for themselves whether to invest in this product.

Recently a reader queried the GST and fees chargeable for the transactions for UOB Gold/Silver Saving Account. Based on UOB’s website, there is no GST chargeable for transactions. As for the fees, they are indicated clearly in the …

Saving money is hard as you grow older. Getting married, having kids and their expenses, needing a car and taking care of the parents. How the hell do you find large sums of money for investing to grow your wealth?

6 years ago, I came across Richard Russell’s 4 valuable advice to folks all walks of life. The one that left the greatest impression was the difference between an investor who starts investing at 19 years old and stops at 25 years old, versus one that invest the same amount from age 26 all the way to 65.

Their record would have been equal.

Achieving the rate of return is the key, and probably what we discuss more on this site. This week, I cam across an article by Andrew Hallam, who wrote millionaire teacher. The key takeaways are a few things

We know that he does low cost indexing …

Well, if one has access to the US market, one could invest in stocks like Colgate-Palmolive, Proctor and Gamble, Coke, etc. These are really defensive play stocks and the businesses should do reasonably well even if the economy tanks. Afterall, people still need to brush their teeth and wash their hair even if the economy is bad.

Residential

Indications of cooling property market

After five rounds of cooling measures to discourage speculative demand and the increase in housing supply as part of the measures to cool the property market, results can be seen in the slight decrease in private home prices in Q1 2012, the fall in the proportion of sub-sales (an indicator of speculative demand) to 4%, as well as the fall in the proportion of private residential property bought by foreigners and companies to 7%. The resale prices for HDB flats have also slowed down, increasing by a mere 0.6% in Q1 2012.

However, the increasing number of shoebox units and rising mass market prices remained problematic. As of end-Q1 2012, the 2,500 completed shoe-box units made up 1.2% of the 210,000 non-landed private housing units and the figure is expected to hit 9,700 by 2015. 80% of these completed units are located …

Published Singapore Monday 1pm.

The above article commenced mid February with Part 2 in March and Part 3 in April. My benchmark for the tug of war list of events is the DJI ranging from 12800 to 13000. I had picked the above title, then, is because my speculation was that market would trend sideways until the next key events.

Last week, DJI closed below 12,400 together with S&P500 and Nasdaq closing down for the week back to back. Hence, the tug of war or range trading had ended. Leading to the correction were the following list of events:

· GDP were weak then

· Currencies were lower (not USD) signalling higher inflation….

However, having provided all the bad news…. here comes my technical reading.

Technically, RSI and various indicators signal ‘oversold’ levels. The big boys, fund houses may have program buying at key technical support levels. Hence, there’s a strong possibility the market would take a short breather from these oversold positions.

Carry trades

The global sentiment is risk-off. Volatility is high. This leads to unwinding of carry trades in currencies. Hence, safe haven currencies are sought after. The Yen and US dollar rises. Other currencies including commodity currencies weaken. This leads to a fall in commodities – mining, agriculture, etc.

On a separate matter…

Properties. This is probably your biggest and longest investment. Most, if not all would take the longest tenure. Here’s the problem most of you do not see. You’ll be paying the biggest loan and let the bank earn your money. Your principal gets lowered very very slowly…

In my 16 years of practical experience being in the financial industry, I’ve assisted a handful in claims – death and diagnosis of major illness. Fortunately, all claims were processed and approved. Their loved ones and dependants are ‘well’ taken care off.

I am writing to you as I am very concern for most of you – in the area of personal financial risk management.

We complete our education, find a job/career, start a family, buy a house, and pay off our debts while planning for retirement. However, in this search of climbing the corporate ladder, earning a better income while starting a family, many (NOT all) are in search of higher income.

In my opinion, the primary objectives of most family are a higher income and a better standard of living. What I am concerned about is that the improvement in income and a better standard of living does not equate to a proportionate level of savings, investments, retirement funding, protection of future income for future expenses for self, loved ones and dependants.

Why is that so? The common reasons are:

No money, no worry, no hurry. Hence, the issue is that when they reach pre-retirement, the time factor, health factor, insurability factor may be too little too late….

Thinking that it is a secret sell off by the management or other funds, i held my horses.

Right now, with templeton fund and lin guo rong (CEO of cmz) buying back with huge amounts, it has prompted a reversal ytd and closed at 0.615.

I have bought them at 0.62 and decides to hold it for some time here.. If it would return to 1.20, it equates to almost 100% return! :D
