As the market transforms back and fro into a beast that is neither a bull or a bear (perhaps it had always been a hybrid chimera of sort – a bull with bear head for instance), I noticed that more and more old timer bloggers are slowly exiting the blogging scene. I say that with a tinge of heartache, because some of them had been blogging together with me since I started circa 2006 period, right near the peak of the bull market. 6 years had since passed, with each of them patiently and industrially churning out articles after articles, sometimes to an unappreciative crowd of anonymous users, and hopefully not blogging just to yourself.

I guess there’s a time and tide for everything. As we grow older, a lot of activities will exact their demands on our energy and time. Suddenly passions that you once had might have gone …

Similar to most people, let me share my year 2011 review.

My first post is on 1 Apr 2011. April fool day! My blog is now 8 months old!

Thank you!
It was, is and will be a very fulfilling and exciting journey to record and share my journey in investing. In this year I had learnt many things (average in, XIRR, emotion, power of internal strength etc) and had summarise the some of the key things which I have learnt in a blog post earlier. (See http://opposethetrend.blogspot.com/2011/10/my-story-typical-know-nothing-to-know.html).

Beside what I have learnt, I have also made friends with many interesting people such as 50k saving per year, 100k passive income, BBB WJ, Keppel’s Uncle with hot daughter in SMU, atas DBSS, audit director, leverage king, sexy mum, small fry, busty froggy, hot doctor, cookie monster, serious MW, drizzt, sexy SMOL, piggybank, …

Been running of ideas on what to write for my blog. Does all bloggers have the same difficulty of running out of stuffs to write?

Dear readers, do you have any suggestions on what topics I can write for my blog?

By the way, I broke my “kiam Sapness” over so many years. The past two phones which I bought are $0 and $48 respectively and I always choose the cheapest plan available. I also refuse to get 3G plans because I don’t want to end up like other people in MRT where everyone is frantically poking their phones every single second.

Sadly, I went over to the dark side yesterday.

I had bought a new phone LG Optimus 2X at the cost of $88 and change my current plan of Ioneplus to 3G flexi Lite. My bill will increase by …

My portfolio is not a trading one. It is basically one that generates regular and reliable passive income. So, it is not unthinkable to just leave it alone while I take a short break.

I did receive a SMS from my broker today regarding LMIR’s rights issue and how much I should transfer to subscribe to it. Other than that, I have been out of touch.

Where did I go the last few days? Here is a clue:…

The top five articles in June are:

Standard Chartered Bank Singapore- NO MINIMUM BROKERAGE FEES!
Standand Chartered Online Trading Account
8 Singapore Stocks to watch during a bear market
Sometimes it’s better to be “stupid” and “wrong”
To Pay Or Not To Pay

SCB no minimum brokerage fees has been the top news this month and I know of several people who has already make the switch. I just receive news from POEMS that my brokerage team has been reorganized to serve me better and I even got a call from a broker in OCBC asking me to open an account with them. It seems like rival brokerage firms are feeling the heat!

I’m still in no hurry to switch because:

Once you buy shares from SCB, your shares will be kept by them and you must use SCB trading platform for all your trades. (I think you can transfer your shares out from SCB to your CDP account but may require a fee)

No options trading (thanks to reader Gary). I would believe this also means no short selling or warrants too because you will need to have cash prior to any trade.

No plans to to buy any shares unless the market plunge 20-30%.

Congratulations to Jared Seah (my guest blogger) for making it to the list. His article talk about doing something against the norm and benefiting from it.

Till July…

Hitting 10,000 Visitors Per Day

Blogging. I have probably written lots about it before and the targets that I have set for myself previously. Loyal readers of my blog will most probably know the targets that I have set for myself in terms of blog traffic and stuff. I realised that I have not been pursuing those targets that I have set for myself previously and that has somehow resulted in me being haphazard in my approach towards this blog.

It all starts with the mindset that goes: “Forget about those targets, let’s just do what I want and blog about what I want to.” Come to think of it, targets are actually not that bad. At least they help me to stay on track and be focused.

My target for this blog is to get 10,000 unique visitors per day. Will I be able to achieve such astounding …

After a short hiatus, BigFatPurse is back! I hope you do miss the posts :)

I have completed the first draft of my book. It would have to go through the process of editing and consultation with the interviewees for their respective sections.

I have not really nailed down the title of the book. Tentatively, I have put it as “The Hard Truths About Trading”. The subtitle would be “Interviews with 9 Singaporean Traders”.

What do you think? I bet you would say I borrowed Mr Lee Kwan Yew’s book, “Hard Truths”. There is no intention of publicity stunts but to really bring the right perspective to trading as a vocation and not a get rich quick avenue. Hence I find hard truths the apt depiction.

Who are the 9 traders you might ask. Assuming they are agreeable with the content, the 9 traders are (not in order of merit):

…
