My Investment Portfolio (August 2014)
1 September 2014 | 5:57 am

STI ended this month down to close at 3327 points. It had been another quiet month with worries on geopolitical issues taking the centre stage. Some of them had been mentioned by me during my previous monthly posts and therefore I shall not repeat here. There are also not much surprises from companies with financial year ending June 2014 when they reported their results during the month.

For this month, I have attended the following AGMs/EGMs/briefings - Goodpack, Longcheer, Tianjin Zhong Xin Pharmaceutical Group and Ezra.

For my top 30 holdings, United Engineers was in the news as there were talks of it being a takeover target and also their intention to sell their automotive business. It didn't move up in my portfolio as it had lagged behind my top holding for quite sometime. However, these good news does close the gap between my top holding and United Engineers. OSIM International was also in the spotlight but the market doesn't like its proposed convertible bond issue. I have continued adding onto Singapura Finance as I was encouraged by their decent full year results. Not much changes were observed in my other top holdings, as AusNet Services (formerly known as SP AusNet) returned to the list due to share price appreciation.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AP Oil, Amara, Forterra Trust, Hor Kew, IFS Capital, Jardine Strategic, Keppel T&T, Multi-Chem, OUE, Pollux, Popular, Singapore Reinsurance, Singapura Finance, Stamford Land and Straits Trading. There is no sale done this month.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend schemes this month - Frasers Commercial Trust and MapleTree Logistics Trust. I have also participated in the following rights issues - OLS and Mun Siong.

I have accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offer this month - Surface Mount Technology.

September will be another quiet month for me. I will be holding onto some cash to participate in OCBC rights issue. I will continue to position my portfolio more defensively going forward and will selectively add onto undervalued stocks with low volatility.

My Investment Portfolio (July 2014)
1 August 2014 | 3:57 am

STI ended this month up more than 100 points to 3374. There had been some buying interest in index stocks this month as companies with financial year ending 31 December 2014 will be announcing their half year results this month and in August. Investors might be buying some index heavyweights like banks and property stocks in anticipation of good results.

For this month, I have attended the following AGMs/EGMs/briefings - SingPost, Azeus, Ascendas India Trust, Grand Banks, MapleTree Logistics Trust, MapleTree Industrial Trust, Valuetronics, Pteris Global, Bukit Sembawang, Pollux, IndiaBulls Properties, Stamford Land, CitySpring and AIMS AMP Industrial REIT.

For my top 30 holdings, PNE Industries is a new entry to the list due to its excellent share price performance this month. However, MTQ Corp disappointed after announcing 1Q results that is below market expectation. Hong Leong Finance and Singapura Finance moved up in the list as I added more into these two stocks. I have started to position my portfolio more defensively as STI hits a new 14 month high by the end of this month.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Forterra Trust, GK Goh, Hong Leong Finance, Isetan, Jardine Strategic, Keppel T&T, OCBC, Popular, Sakae, Shangri-La Asia, Singapore Reinsurance, Singapura Finance, Straits Trading and Venture. I have also closed my position in China XLX after they announced their decision to delist from SGX.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend scheme this month - Noble Group. I have also converted the following company warrants to shares - Asiatravel.com.

I have accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offer this month - Gems TV.

August will be quiet month for me. Companies with financial year ending 31 December 2014 will be announcing their half-year results. I will be going through some of these results but not in great details. I will also seek to re-invest some of those dividends that will be payable for companies holding their AGMs in July.

My Investment Portfolio (June 2014)
1 July 2014 | 4:02 am

STI ended the month on a losing note at 3255 points. Markets had been quiet this month, with low trading volume on most days. This is because of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Brazil and also worries about unrest in Iraq. Also, there is no much news on the corporate front to move the market.

For this month, I have attended the following AGMs/EGMs/briefings - Global Yellow Pages, Sunvic, ISR Capital, 2nd Chance, Transit Mixed Concrete, Global Invacom and A-REIT.

For my top 30 holdings, Hong Fok continued its good run and had been a top performer in my portfolio for this month. Another good performer is Hotel Grand Central as they announced the sale of their hotel in Little India on the last trading day of June. ComfortDelgro and Stamford Land returned to my top 30 list due to good performance. GK Goh returned to the list as I added onto the stock this month.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Amara, Ban Leong, BBR, Chew's Group, CSE Global, Eastern Holdings, Eunetworks, Forterra Trust, GK Goh, GP Hotels, Hupsteel, IFS Capital, Jardine Strategic, Keppel Corp, Keppel T&T, KTL Global, Lantrovision, Mandarin Oriental, MYP, Singapore Reinsurance and Venture. I have also closed my position in DTAC after they announced their decision to delist from SGX.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend schemes this month - Aspial, Cambridge, DBS, Far East Orchard, Frasers Commercial Trust, Hotel Grand Central, Mapletree Commercial Trust, Mapletree Industrial Trust, Mapletree Logistics Trust, OCBC, QAF, Raffles Medical, Sabana REIT, SP AusNet, Tuan Sing, UIC, UOA, UOB, UOB Kay Hian and UOL. I have also participated in the following rights issue - Global Yellow Pages.

I have accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offers this month - ASJ, CapitaMalls Asia and China Powerplus.

Next month will be another busy month for me. Companies with financial year ending 31 March 2014 will be holding their AGMs. I will be attending some of them to get some updates. I will also seek to re-invest the special dividend from Transcorp as and when opportunities presents itself.

My Investment Portfolio (May 2014)
1 June 2014 | 3:42 am

STI ended the month up at 3296 points. Markets had been quite steady this month. Companies with financial year ending March 2014 had been reporting their full-year results, and most had met market expectations. Basically, markets lack more bad news to pull it down, therefore it had remained steady.

For this month, I have attended the following AGMs/EGMs/briefings -Petra Foods, HanKore, Jacks International, Frasers Centrepoint Trust and Low Keng Huat.

For my top 30 holdings, the main contributors this month include Old Chang Kee, Metro, Hong Fok and MTQ. With the exception of Hong Fok (which has a different financial year end than the other 3 companies), the other 3 companies with financial year ending March 2014 reported their full-year results in May 2014 and their results are within my expectation.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Amara, Auric Pacific, BBR, Bukit Sembawang, DMX Technologies, Forterra Trust, Grand Banks, Heeton, Hong Leong Finance, Intraco, Jardine Strategic, Lantrovision, Lum Chang, Saizen REIT, Sinarmas Land, Straits Trading, United Overseas Australia, UOI, World Precision and Zagro Asia. There is no sale done this month.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend schemes this month - First REIT, Jardine Matheson and Jardine Strategic. I have also participated in the following rights issue - Hai Leck.

Next month will be another quiet month for me. I will seek to re-invest the remaining dividends paid out near the end of May 2014 which I didn't have the opportunity to do so. There will be some cash drag in my portfolio due to that which I will seek to resolve it next month. I will also do some catch-up reading on some periodicals and investment books.
