10 Years of Blogging
6 October 2014 | 10:16 am

Dear all,

This blog is 10 years old! My first post for this blog was in 7th October 2004. How time files. What started out as a hobby in investment had transformed into a full-time adventure as a private investor for the past 3 years.

Blogs come and go, and this blog had become a record of my investment adventures for the past 10 years. It started out as a request from a forumer at sgfunds.com to disclose some of my stock investment and later become a regular monthly updates of my investment transactions in my portfolio.

Looking back 10 years ago at my top 20 holdings (yes, I only disclose my top 20 holdings back then), there is obviously some difference in those holdings. Some companies like Meiban, SPC, People's Food, First Engineering, WBL Corp, Unisteel, S'pore Food Industries etc had been taken private, some companies like China Aviation Oil, Tech Group (currently known as Sunningdale Tech), HTL International etc had fallen out of favour. But some companies like Noble Group, Comfort Delgro, OSIM, CapitaMall, SGX, Jardine C&C etc had withstand the test of time and remained in my top 30 holdings currently.

There had also been some robust debates in the comments section of this blog throughout these 10 years. I personally like to engage readers who leave comments on my postings. Memorable days include during the Global Financial Crisis where there had been readers posting in my blog almost everyday which I have debated robustly with them, defending my investment process. I would like to personally thank all those readers who have contributed in the comments section of this blog. Thanks for your comments, suggestions, encouragements etc for the past 10 years and I look forward to your continuous support.

Throughout these 10 years, though companies come and go and there are many changes in the financial markets, I stay invested in the market just as I remained faithful to this blog. I still have the energy to continue blogging, though not as frequently as last time.

Hopefully, this blog will have many more years to go before I finally decided to call it a day.

My Investment Portfolio (September 2014)
30 September 2014 | 1:29 pm

STI ended this month down to close at 3276 points. The market is very much in negative territory especially towards the end of this month, as investors grapple with issues like timing of interest rate hike in US, weak China growth, euro zone sluggishness and lately, unrest in Hong Kong. With so many bad news out there, it is no wonder that most investors had opted to stay on the sidelines.

For this month, I have attended the following AGMs/EGMs/briefings - CM Pacific, Hotel Grand Central, Craft Print, SGX, Lian Beng, GKE and TEE International.

For my top 30 holdings, Straits Trading had been a new entry as I have accumulated the stock this month. Stamford Land returned to the list as I added more to the stock. MTQ dropped out of the list after the stock underperformed the market due to its poor quarterly results. Most of the other stocks have lost some ground in line with the general market.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AP Oil, Amara, City Developments, Design Studio, First Sponsor, Hanwell, Hiap Hoe, Hotel Royal, Hwa Hong, Keppel Corp, Keppel T&T, Lum Chang, Nam Lee, OUE, Popular, SembCorp Industries, Sinarmas Land, Sing Holdings, Stamford Land, Straits Trading and Yoma Strategic. I have reduced my stake in Ascott REIT, Cambridge and MapleTree Logistics Trust to partly fund some of these purchases.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend schemes this month - AIMS AMP Capital Industrial REIT, Cambridge, CapitaRetail China Trust, DBS, First REIT, MapleTree Commercial Trust, MapleTree Industrial Trust, MTQ and Sabana REIT. I have also participated in the following rights issues - Broadway, OCBC, Plastoform, and Sitra.

I have the following company being acquired via Scheme of arrangement this month - Goodpack.

October will be a busy month for me as companies with financial year ending June 2014 will be holding their AGMs. I will be attending some of them to get some updates on those companies. I will also selectively add stocks that had been badly beaten down by the recent market correction.

My Investment Portfolio (August 2014)
1 September 2014 | 5:57 am

STI ended this month down to close at 3327 points. It had been another quiet month with worries on geopolitical issues taking the centre stage. Some of them had been mentioned by me during my previous monthly posts and therefore I shall not repeat here. There are also not much surprises from companies with financial year ending June 2014 when they reported their results during the month.

For this month, I have attended the following AGMs/EGMs/briefings - Goodpack, Longcheer, Tianjin Zhong Xin Pharmaceutical Group and Ezra.

For my top 30 holdings, United Engineers was in the news as there were talks of it being a takeover target and also their intention to sell their automotive business. It didn't move up in my portfolio as it had lagged behind my top holding for quite sometime. However, these good news does close the gap between my top holding and United Engineers. OSIM International was also in the spotlight but the market doesn't like its proposed convertible bond issue. I have continued adding onto Singapura Finance as I was encouraged by their decent full year results. Not much changes were observed in my other top holdings, as AusNet Services (formerly known as SP AusNet) returned to the list due to share price appreciation.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AP Oil, Amara, Forterra Trust, Hor Kew, IFS Capital, Jardine Strategic, Keppel T&T, Multi-Chem, OUE, Pollux, Popular, Singapore Reinsurance, Singapura Finance, Stamford Land and Straits Trading. There is no sale done this month.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend schemes this month - Frasers Commercial Trust and MapleTree Logistics Trust. I have also participated in the following rights issues - OLS and Mun Siong.

I have accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offer this month - Surface Mount Technology.

September will be another quiet month for me. I will be holding onto some cash to participate in OCBC rights issue. I will continue to position my portfolio more defensively going forward and will selectively add onto undervalued stocks with low volatility.

My Investment Portfolio (July 2014)
1 August 2014 | 3:57 am

STI ended this month up more than 100 points to 3374. There had been some buying interest in index stocks this month as companies with financial year ending 31 December 2014 will be announcing their half year results this month and in August. Investors might be buying some index heavyweights like banks and property stocks in anticipation of good results.

For this month, I have attended the following AGMs/EGMs/briefings - SingPost, Azeus, Ascendas India Trust, Grand Banks, MapleTree Logistics Trust, MapleTree Industrial Trust, Valuetronics, Pteris Global, Bukit Sembawang, Pollux, IndiaBulls Properties, Stamford Land, CitySpring and AIMS AMP Industrial REIT.

For my top 30 holdings, PNE Industries is a new entry to the list due to its excellent share price performance this month. However, MTQ Corp disappointed after announcing 1Q results that is below market expectation. Hong Leong Finance and Singapura Finance moved up in the list as I added more into these two stocks. I have started to position my portfolio more defensively as STI hits a new 14 month high by the end of this month.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Forterra Trust, GK Goh, Hong Leong Finance, Isetan, Jardine Strategic, Keppel T&T, OCBC, Popular, Sakae, Shangri-La Asia, Singapore Reinsurance, Singapura Finance, Straits Trading and Venture. I have also closed my position in China XLX after they announced their decision to delist from SGX.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend scheme this month - Noble Group. I have also converted the following company warrants to shares - Asiatravel.com.

I have accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offer this month - Gems TV.

August will be quiet month for me. Companies with financial year ending 31 December 2014 will be announcing their half-year results. I will be going through some of these results but not in great details. I will also seek to re-invest some of those dividends that will be payable for companies holding their AGMs in July.
