Overpaying for rent

Picking up from my previous post about blogging on the personal finance mistakes we have made, I was discussing how we graduated in 2009 in Melbourne. One of the most important decisions we made then was that we should move in together after graduation. This decision was borne out of necessity as it would have helped to reduce our cost of living in Melbourne when we started working. That being said, we enjoyed each other's company and wanted to take the first serious step in our relationship by moving in together officially. I will walk through how we came to the decision to rent a relatively new 2 bedroom unfurnished apartment in the city close to our workplaces and paid more than 30% of our net monthly income in rent.
