Lessons on Stop Loss

Time flies and it's already a year since I have embarked on trading the US market. My result sheet is far from fantastic as my capital gain still fall short from my capital loss last year, despite my better trade executions this year. This is because I have downsized my positions and used less CFD (margin) to trade, as a result, my gains are smaller compared to old losses on CFD. Looking back, I would attribute 50% of my gains this year to luck and 50% to discipline. Discipline to wait for the right signal before entering, discipline to set a stop loss and stick to it, discipline to keep the winner and not take profit too early. I began exploring the financial world in year 2010, hoping to get out of the rat race and be financially independent. 2010 was the aftermath period of the Lehman crisis when a pretty shaken up market was struggling to recover. On hindsight, that was the perfect time to catch multi-bagger stocks should I be a veteran or at least had some basic knowledge of picking up 'gems'. My learning curve was steep then, as I have absolutely no friends or relative who could shed some light on what's investing about.
