SATS Limited (SGX:S58) (SATS) reported loss of S$33.2 million for the second quarter ended 30 September 2020, an improvement of $10.5 million from last quarter’s result of S$43.7 million.
Group revenue decreased $266.3 million or 53.5% year-on-year to $231.1 million, with both Food Solutions and Gateway Services posting a sharp decline in aviation revenue due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Revenue from Gateway Services decreased by $138.1 million (61.1%) to $87.8 million, and Food Solutions’ revenue dropped by $131.4 million (48.5%) to $139.6 million.
In line with the drop in aviation volumes, overall flights handled and meal volumes dropped by more than 70% and 90% respectively year-on-year, while cargo tonnage improved 22.6% quarter-on-quarter.
Group expenditure for 2Q reduced by $201.3 million (46.6%) year-on-year, to $231.1 million.
Saff cost was significantly reduced by $142 million or 61.3% due to a combination of factors such as government reliefs, as well as lower contract services and headcount due to lower operating needs.
