2021 Q2 checkpoint and a rant on insurance companies

It’s been a full year since I’ve started my new job and things are heating up a bit. Over the last quarter, I was busy at work and managing my family fund. Before I get to my portfolio, there is something that made me raise my eyebrows this quarter. Many years ago, I purchased a full hospitalization plan for private hospitals, as well as a rider to cover the plan’s deductibles. I was supposed to be fully insured and didn’t have to make any single payment. A couple of weeks back, I went to get a simple surgical procedure done and got a nasty financial surprise. When I told my insurance agent about the procedure, she shared that I had to make a payment of $500 out of my own Medisave account as a deductible, because the doctor I was seeing wasn’t on a small panel approved by the insurance firm....
