Playing The Right Game When Investing

One of the best books I’ve read over the past year is William Green’s Richer, Wiser, HappierIn his book, Green writes about the lessons he’s gained from his interactions with some of the world’s best investors over the past few decades. One of the investors Green profiled in his book was Nicholas Sleep, whom I admire deeply. Here’s a memorable passage from the book on Sleep’s experience while investing in Amazon:
“Skepticism about Amazon continued to swirl. In the midst of the 2008 market meltdown, Sleep attended an event in New York where George Soros spoke about the threat of an impending financial apocalypse. Soros, one of the most successful traders in history, named just one stock that he was shorting as the world fell apart: Amazon.”
Amazon’s share price ended 2007 at US$92 and eventually fell to a low of US$35 during the 2008/09 financial crisis in November 2008....
