Back in 2015, when I first wrote about You Need A Budget (YNAB), it cost a one-time US$60, ran off a desktop install, and synced through Dropbox of all things. None of that is true anymore. The desktop app? Gone. The price is now a yearly subscription, and the entire app lives in the cloud.
The modern version of YNAB is seamless across desktop and mobile devices
What hasn’t changed is that I’m still using it. Every. Single. Day. I bought it once for that US$60 back then, and when YNAB later switched to a yearly subscription, I just kept paying. Through every price hike, through the whole model change, I stuck around. And I’d do it again tomorrow without blinking.
And here’s the part that might surprise you. Over those years, my net worth went from negative to seven figures. Markets crashed. I changed jobs. I got married. Life happened, the way it does....
