FIRE Trial Expense Report — May 2026: A $1,200 Hosting Bill But The Month Stayed Green

April was the month family took the spotlight and the total barely moved. May had a $1,223 hosting bill land in one go, and the total still barely moved. The difference this month is on the other side of the ledger. For those new here, my wife and I are your average Singaporean couple living in an HDB flat in Singapore. Our monthly mortgage is fully paid through CPF, so housing doesn’t show up in these numbers. I’ve been tracking every dollar we spend since 2013 using You Need A Budget (YNAB). This series looks at our real monthly expenses, compares them against my alternative income, and answers one question. Can we sustain our lifestyle without a full-time salary? This month’s story? A big annual hosting bill landed plus a 4-night JB retreat, but the total expense figure held steady anyway, and a dividend cluster arrived to push the month green....
