Can a hospitality REIT really become resilient enough to deserve a place as a long-term core holding?
That’s the question I set out to answer in this deep dive into CapitaLand Ascott Trust or CLAS (SGX: HMN).
Most investors think of CLAS simply as a hospitality REIT. But after spending time researching its portfolio, acquisitions, capital allocation decisions and business model, I came away with a very different perspective.
Instead of trying to eliminate the natural volatility of hotels, management appears to have been quietly building multiple layers of resilience through serviced residences, student accommodation, rental housing, master leases and active portfolio recycling.
In this video, I’ll explain why I believe looking at CLAS purely as a hospitality REIT misses the bigger picture.
