From AXA to HSBC to Allianz: What Happens to Your Insurance Policy When the Insurer Changes Hands?

Your insurance policy may last for decades, but the insurer’s owner, brand and servicing adviser may change. A good adviser and financial plan help you maintain continuity throughout your financial journey. If you used to own an AXA policy, you may remember that in 2022, HSBC acquired AXA Singapore and integrated it with its existing insurance business. Your policy subsequently came under the HSBC Life brand. Now, HSBC has agreed to sell HSBC Life Singapore to Allianz. Subject to regulatory approval, the transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. After completion, HSBC Life Singapore is expected to be renamed again. That means some policyholders could see the name associated with their policy move through three different brands: AXA → HSBC Life → Allianz All this could happen while the underlying policy continues running. This may sound unsettling. After all, life insurance is supposed to provide certainty. Many policies are designed to remain in force for 20, 30 or even 50 years....
