Find Your Passion, Change the World
It was a tremendous honour to return to Jurong Pioneer Junior College as the Guest of Honour for College Day.
Thirty-six years ago, I was a student at Jurong Junior College, sitting where today’s students are sitting. I never imagined that my journey would eventually take me from Singtel and Stanford University to entrepreneurship—and later, to building the 1M65 financial-literacy movement.
In this speech, I share two important lessons from my life:
1. Find Your Passion
I spent 20 years building a successful corporate career, but deep inside, I always wanted to become an entrepreneur. At 42, my wife and I finally took the leap. The journey was difficult and humbling, but pursuing my passion brought me greater meaning, joy and purpose.
Do not spend 20 years waiting as I did. Explore your passion early, and have the courage to pursue it.
2. Change the World
At Stanford, I met students who constantly spoke about changing the world. Initially, I thought their dreams were unrealistic. But their courage and ambition transformed the way I saw my own purpose.
That experience eventually inspired me to start the 1M65 Movement, through which hundreds of thousands of people have learned how to improve their financial knowledge, build wealth and work towards financial independence.
My message to every student and young person is simple:
Find your passion. Change the world.
Believe that your life can make a difference. Live boldly, dream courageously, and just do it.
