Most people picture retirement as something that starts at 65, on the last day of a long career. I don’t see it that way. I was ready to be semi-retired before 40. Retirement isn’t the endgame, but life with fewer alarms.
The real question was never “when do I stop working.” It’s more like “what does enough look like, and what do I do with the freedom once I have it.” I see this in myself, and in my parents as they navigate theirs.
