Many people I know carry a YouTrip card. For years, it was the easy answer to one annoying problem: your bank charges an FX fee of around 3.25% every time you spend overseas. YouTrip charges nothing extra.
That may be a strong pitch in 2018, but it is a weaker one now. My bank can also give me a credit card with 0% FX fees, and it pays me cashback on top. There are a lot of these cards now. So the question is not whether YouTrip is still great. It is whether YouTrip still does anything a good bank card cannot.
My answer is yes, but it comes down to two things.
YouTrip is a real multi-currency wallet, so I can lock in a rate I like and hold that currency for a trip months away, which a credit card cannot do. And it is a useful backup card for overseas ATM withdrawals, behind my Trust card....
