Excluded by many cards, utility bills are one of those tricky categories to get credit card rewards on. As of late 2026, however, there are still a bunch of cards that give cashback or miles on such transactions. Merchant Category Code Payments for utilities tend are coded as Merchant Category Code (MCC) 4900, so if your card does not explicitly exclude this MCC or utilities, there’s a good chance you can get your card rewards on them.
