My name is Derek and welcome to TheFinance.sg.
I’m an IT engineer based in Singapore with a passion for anything to do with finance and investing. My financial journey started when I picked up a book by Rich Dad Poor Dad. As I was reading up on the subject I learnt about financial concepts such as cash flow, good debt, bad debt, (actually saving money and not spending it all on beer) – and other important lessons. There are plenty of corporate/news reports and articles but I wanted articles with a personal touch and written in a local context. This prove to be quite difficult as there wasn’t many local financial blogs around.
Once I had gathered together some good financial blogs from local bloggers I could trust, it was again quite difficult to keep track of all the important articles I wanted to keep up to date with, visiting each site on a daily basis in order to get all the updates on the various blogs I was following.
That’s when the idea of consolidating all of these blogs together hit me and I decided to create a one stop portal for all of this useful information. Hence, the Finance.sg was born.
TheFinance.sg keeps all the good local blogs on Singapore Finance together in one place, making it easier for anyone who wants to learn about Investing (property, stocks, trading) and Personal Finance (insurance, saving, spending).
A Community Vibe
More than anything I wanted to help create a community where like-minded people can share ideas, get connected and help each other to develop their understanding in different areas of finance. TheFinance.sg is visited and contributed to by people from different walks of life, from students and those learning about Finance for the first time, to seasoned traders and experienced investors who have generously agreed to share their knowledge and experience.
Other Interests
When I’m not reading up on finance and investing news in Singapore or doing anything geeky, I will spend my time exploring new sights and sounds e.g. a new café, visiting a new exhibit or going for a musical. I’m also an avid soccer player and long-time Manchester United fan. Watching a soccer match can sometimes be more exhilarating than a plunge in the market!
