First Look: “New” StanChart Journey Replaces StanChart X Card

The Standard Chartered X Card launched to much fanfare a few years ago. It came with a princely 100,000 miles sign-up gift, and was even sent to cardholders in this needlessly extravagant box that lit up: It quickly faded into obscurity as StanChart started to cut back on both its sign-up bonus and packaging. The sign-up miles dwindled and the packaging became more humble, eventually becoming just a boring envelope other “normal cards” delivered in. Without a compelling use case and the apparent lack of effort from the bank to make it a relevant card, I guess you could say that the X Card has been on quite a rocky journey the past few years. As an adult, I’ve been through many ups and downs in my career path and personal finance journey, not unlike many Singaporeans. From my years as a tied insurance agent turned independent financial adviser, I realised that there are very few sources of proper, unbiased financial advice for working adults to access. Worse, self-styled “financial consultants” are selling products like savings plans and ILPs to the detriment of the clients whose interests they were supposed to serve.
