Summary China’s reopening in January after easing COVID curbs sparked hopes of economic recovery and a return to normalcy. But six months on, is this optimism becoming reality? In Wuhan, once the epicentre of the pandemic, the city is moving on, but memories of the lockdowns still linger.  Manufacturing and exports are picking up steam, but this upbeat outlook is countered by a less positive external environment, with geopolitical tensions, global inflation and weak demand challenging progress. All this is also weighing on the job market, with uneven employment across sectors. While mainland tourists are returning to Hong Kong and Macau, many are spending less, and opting for more authentic travel over luxury experiences. Can places like these reinvent themselves to cater to the changing tastes of domestic tourists? Hi everyone, I'm soniceric, my real name is of course not soniceric, it's just Ericsson :) The reason I name this blog as soniceric is a word play on the brand of "sony Ericsson" hence soniceric(geddit?)
