In the latest HSBC survey on “The Future of Retirement”, it was mentioned that 39% of those surveyed are planners who seek professional help. This group tends to be the most well off. Well, I did not know that there are so many people who seek ‘professional help.’ Frankly speaking I do not believe in the survey. I think ‘professional help’ means asking for some product quotations from insurance agents and advisers.
The survey also place a correlation between wealth and financial planning. I wonder whether financial planning implies higher wealth or it was the higher wealth that drives the individual to do some financial planning. Perhaps neither implies each other but they are linked by a third variable. Perhaps a higher wealth implies being prospected by an insurance salesman which implies developing a ‘financial plan’.
