Pre-tirement is a relatively new term coined within the last few years. It describes a life stage where instead of stopping work completely in retirement, one remains active in the industry, albeit with a staggered work routine.
As your age extends past the retirement cutoff, the number of working hours is correspondingly reduced, until you decide to finally call it quits.
Presumably, it is a waste to stop work and let the years of rich experience go down the drain. Pre-tirement allows people to continue working and contribute their expertise as a consultant. Human capital win-win for both company and pre-tiree.
Although not all industries, for example taxi driving, require a consultant.
