Bought a bicycle for him from Toy R Us one month ago. After riding with the stabilizers for a few days, I decided to screw out the support wheels because I feel it doesn’t help him and he might get too reliant on them. You need to learn how to lean and balance and you can’t do that with the stabilizers on.
Definitely more risky riding on two wheels for a 5 years old, but it accelerated his balance and overall adoption. Started off teaching him how to use his legs to support the bike when it topples left and right. Then let him slowly glide with his two legs on the ground. Followed by supporting his back while he rides on his pedals, to gradually pinching the back of his shirt to teach him how to lean. Good news, he can ride all by himself today!
