The couple is now looking into either investing in another property for rental income or investing in blue chips. So it is not true that people nowsadays don't choose not to pay off their home as early as possible. I am 62 yrs old uncle living in HDB heartland who has achieved financial independence @ 56 and finally retired @ 60 from full-time job as employee on 1 Oct 2016.
