I read in the newspaper about a student who incurred hefty hospital bills despite her parent working as an insurance agent. I am amazed why this is so.
While I cannot comment about the industry in other countries, in Singapore’s context many financial advisers are no longer selling insurance. If we use the actual payout made by insurance companies to policyholders, only 6.33% was made due to insurance claims. The rest were related to savings. This means that a typical insurance agents and so-called ‘IFA’ are selling everything except insurance. Is it not irony that the financial industry preaches the importance of insurance but refuse to sell insurance? Moreover, is it not a surprise that insurance agents are not even protecting their families? I am sure everyone agrees that one’s family is more important than anyone else. How could so-called ......
